Harborside Celebrates Pride History in San Francisco

Harborside Celebrates Pride History in San Francisco

Pride Month is here! As part of Pride Month, Harborside is celebrating some of the LGBQT+ brands which we stock. San Francisco has long been a center for activism and freedom of expression. As one of the oldest, largest, and most trusted cannabis dispensaries in the world, Harborside is proud to continue this cultural revolution.

Cannabis has played a significant role in the cultural revolution that swept across the United States in the last century. San Francisco, being one of largest and most pronounced LGBQT+ communities in the United States, is right at the center of it all. From prominent neighborhoods such as the Castro district and Mission area to hosting the Trans March, one of the largest trans events in the world, San Francisco has established deep roots in the Gay liberation movement in the United States. Let’s take a closer look at what Pride Month is, how it started, and some of the tremendous LGBQT+ products we stock at Harborside.

What Is Pride Month?

Pride Month is celebrated each year globally in June, but the tradition of Pride Month goes back to the 1969 Stonewall Uprising in Manhattan, USA. The Stonewall Uprising was the ignition point for the Gay Liberation Movement in the United States.

On June 28th, police raided the popular gay bar, the Stonewall Inn. The raid itself wasn’t unusual for the time, but the response by the patrons was. Instead of meekly being taken away, they fought back, and the Stonewall Riots lasted for days.

In 2015, the Stonewall Inn was declared a historic landmark by the city of New York and later listed as a national monument by President Obama in 2016. Ever since, the month of June has been celebrated as Pride Month, and the month itself includes various activities, including parades, marches, parties, picnics, concerts, educational events, and much more.

If you want to participate in Pride Month this June, then it’s a good idea to check your local organizations to see what events they have organized in your area.

Sundae School Pride Month at Harborside

Sundae School

Based in both Seoul and Los Angeles, this brand is both cannabis and smokewear and they’re on a mission to bring world peace via medicinal plant. CEO and co-founder Dae Lim told Eaze this in 2021 about What pride & Cannabis means to him: “Pride is a journey of self-acceptance. It means loving yourself for who you are, regardless of what the society dictates you “should” be. Not even kidding, but it was really Cannabis that helped me confront my fears of self-acceptance, to not just weigh the pros and cons of the consequence of coming out, but to think of myself as a living, breathing, feeling being.”

In line with their commitment to diversity and equity, Sundae School donates 1% of their sales through Beam, and work specifically with minority owned businesses – from equity-owned flower businesses in California to garment factories hiring the single-parents in Seoul. They make it a priority to partner with people and brands who reflect their ideals.

Plus

As we enter the month of June, a time to celebrate the progress made for TLGBQ+ rights, we acknowledge the intersectionality of queer life and race. Queer rights are civil rights, and we can’t elevate and celebrate the message of Pride without elevating and celebrating the Black, Brown and trans voices that founded – and continue to lead – the fight for dignity, life and equality for all. There is still work to be done for full equal rights for all TLGBQ+ people, especially Black and trans TLGBQ+ people who face higher incidences of violence.PLUS.

According to its website, PLUS’ mission is to harness the natural power of the cannabis plant to produce flavorful and functional cannabis products that enhance and improve your life. As part of Pride Month 2022, PLUS is donating 10% of proceeds from the sale of their PLUS Pride Tins to the TGI Justice Program.

Lowell Farms

Award-winning cannabis company Lowell Farms is proud to be supporting Pride Month again this year with their limited edition Pride Packs. Lowell Farms has been in operation for many years and grows artisan cannabis utilizing sustainable farming methods that pay homage to the uniqueness of the cannabis plant. For the month of June, $1 from each Pride Pack sold will be donated to GLAAD, the world’s most prominent lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer media advocacy organization.

CANN

Cann, a queer-founded by Harvard and Stanford graduates Luke Anderson and Jake Bullock, is the #1 selling THC-infused beverage across America.

Cann’s 2022 Pride campaign celebrates the LGBTQ+ community with the launch of its first-ever original song and music video – “Taste So Good,” a rallying cry and anthem for a movement focused on radical inclusivity.

“As a queer-founded brand, it was a dream come true to work on this campaign with the most amazing tribe of queer icons and celebrity allies to introduce the new Lite flavors while championing our message of equality for Pride,” said Luke Anderson, Co-Founder of Cann.

Harborside Celebrates Pride History in San Francisco

This Pride Month, we want to pay homage to this supportive and historical community that we are fortunate enough to be a part of, as well as the great LGBQT+ products which we stock. The LGBTQ+ community has been at the forefront of many significant moments in history that have brought the cannabis industry to where it is today, and we’re always looking for different ways that we can give back to the community and support minority-owned and operated businesses.

Harborside San Francisco dispensary is a minority-owned business that partners with equity brands and features local businesses in the industry. In addition, we make regular contributions to the Last Prisoner Project, the cannabis reform nonprofit committed to social justice, education, and policy change. In 2021, we sponsored California’s first legal ‘sesh’ called MarketDaze.
