Text that reads: Cannabis is Love. Pride to Honor and Celebrate Pride Month

AS WE CELEBRATE PRIDE MONTH, HARBORSIDE’S CANNABIS IS: LOVE CAMPAIGN PROUDLY HONORS THE BAY AREA LGBTQ+ COMMUNITY.

We look to the strength and bravery of the LGBTQ+ community who’ve not only faced an uphill battle against bigotry and oppression, but who have fought tirelessly against cannabis prohibition and forged the path that has paved the way for dispensaries like us.

Marsha P. Johnson

We honor Black trans activist Marsha P. Johnson, who pushed back against police aggression at Stonewall in 1969. Without her and the rest of the NYC LGBTQ+ community who were there during the uprising, there wouldn’t be the LGTBQ+ Pride Month celebrations as we know them.

Learn more about Marsha P. Johnson and the Marsha P. Johnson Institute here.

Harvey Milk

We honor the legendary Harvey Milk who in 1978 assisted in passing Proposition W which decriminalized cannabis use in the city of San Francisco. Learn more about Harvey Milk and the Harvey Milk Foundation here.

Denise Peron and John Entwistle

We honor Vietnam veteran Dennis Peron and his partner John Entwistle who founded the San Francisco Buyers Club with the mission of providing safe and accessible cannabis to those suffering from the AIDS virus in 1994 before going on to coauthor the revolutionary Proposition 215 in 1996.

Denise Peron and John Entwistle

We honor Navy veteran Paul Scott who worked as a nurse on the frontlines of the AIDS crisis before founding the Oakland Cannabis Buyers’ Cooperative and the IMCC Wellness Center — the first cannabis dispensary in LA County. He has since gone on to launch the LA Black LGBTQ Pride Movement. Learn more about the LA Black LGBTQ Pride Movement here.

Here at Harborside we understand that LGBTQ+ Pride Month was literally fought for — we celebrate while acknowledging that the work is still not over. Thank you for EVERYTHING. We love you!
